Septentrio mosaic-X5 vs mosaic-G5 P3H: What Is the Difference and Which Should You Choose?

Septentrio mosaic-X5 vs mosaic-G5 P3H: What Is the Difference and Which Should You Choose?

Septentrio offers two main OEM GNSS module lines: the mosaic-X5 (flagship) and the mosaic-G5 P3H (professional). While both deliver centimeter-level RTK accuracy and AIM+ anti-jamming, they differ in channel count, anti-spoofing capability, and advanced features. This guide breaks down the differences to help you choose the right module for your application.

Key Differences Explained

Galileo E6: The X5 tracks Galileo’s E6 band (1278.75 MHz), which carries the HAS (High Accuracy Service) PPP corrections and the Commercial Authentication Service. The G5 P3H does not support E6. If you need Galileo HAS for free satellite-based PPP, choose the X5.

Anti-spoofing: This is the most significant differentiator. The X5 supports AIM+ OSNMA for cryptographic authentication of Galileo signals. The G5 P3H does not. For security-sensitive applications (defense, autonomous vehicles, critical infrastructure inspection), the X5’s anti-spoofing is essential. For general survey, agriculture, and drone mapping, the G5’s AIM+ anti-jamming is usually sufficient.

LEO PNT: The X5 supports reception of LEO (Low Earth Orbit) PNT signals from satellites like Iridium NEXT and Xona Space. This emerging technology promises stronger signals and better urban penetration than MEO GNSS. The G5 P3H does not support LEO PNT.

Which Module Is Right for Your Application?

  • Drone/UAV mapping and inspection: mosaic-G5 P3H — excellent value with full RTK and anti-jamming. Upgrade to X5 if you fly near sensitive infrastructure and need anti-spoofing.
  • Autonomous vehicles / robotaxis: mosaic-X5 — anti-spoofing is non-negotiable, and Galileo HAS provides a backup to NTRIP-based RTK.
  • Survey and construction: mosaic-G5 P3H — RTK accuracy is identical, and anti-jamming handles urban RF environments. X5 if you need Galileo HAS for remote sites without NTRIP.
  • Defense / security: mosaic-X5 — OSNMA anti-spoofing is a requirement, not an option.
  • Agriculture: mosaic-G5 P3H — cost-effective with identical RTK accuracy and anti-jamming protection for farm equipment.
  • Marine: mosaic-G5 P3H — reliable RTK without the cost of X5’s anti-spoofing features.
Eview GNSS recommendation: Both modules are available in our GNSS Receiver Box and OEM board configurations — you choose the engine. For most applications, the mosaic-G5 P3H provides professional-grade RTK with AIM+ anti-jamming at a better price point. Contact our team if you need help deciding.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Septentrio mosaic-X5 and mosaic-G5 P3H?
X5: 789 channels, OSNMA anti-spoofing, Galileo HAS, LEO PNT. G5 P3H: 448 channels, AIM+ anti-jamming, no anti-spoofing. Both have identical RTK accuracy.

Does the mosaic-G5 P3H have anti-jamming?
Yes — same AIM+ 40-60 dB as the X5. The difference is anti-spoofing, not anti-jamming.

Does the mosaic-G5 P3H support dual-antenna heading?
Yes. Both modules provide the same dual-antenna heading capability.

Which module should I choose?
X5 for anti-spoofing needs. G5 P3H for cost-effective professional RTK. Both are pin-compatible.

Is the mosaic-G5 P3H pin-compatible with the mosaic-X5?
Yes — drop-in replacement. Start with X5 for prototyping, move to G5 for production where features allow.

Does the mosaic-G5 P3H support Galileo HAS?
No. Galileo HAS requires the E6 band, which only the X5 supports. The G5 P3H supports standard PPP via other methods.
